Meet Our Expert:
John O’Connell is a prominent London-based technology entrepreneur and investor who has invested in and chaired around 20 technology businesses, including LSE & AIM Listed, VC/PE backed, and startups. Notable exits include Evotix, AVVIO, CloudTrade, and ActiveOps. He co-founded, floated, and sold Staffware plc for $200 million in 2004. John currently chairs ActiveNav and the ScaleUp Group (SUG), which he founded eight years ago, helping raise over £6 billion for more than 100 global companies.
SUG aims to create Global Tech Champions by securing growth funding and investing personally. John has twice won the 'Mentor of the Year' Award and is recognized as a 'Master of Information Technology' by AIIM International. He has been inducted into the Smith & Williamson ‘Entrepreneurs Hall of Fame’ and is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT).
John's philanthropy includes founding Chairman roles for the Ambassador Group of Co-operation Ireland and the Technology Leadership Group of the Prince’s Trust, raising over £50 million and inspiring other Leadership Groups to raise an additional £130 million for disadvantaged youth.
